In this project I developed an ethilometer based on the Arduino board. The device measures the alcoholic index. If it is too high then the device connects to the smartphone via Bluetooth and send sms messages to friends and/or relatives. The messages include info for geolocalization.

Through the study of early Greek geometry one can appreciate the development of the mathematical progress. This presentation reports on the experiences made by the two authors when dealing with the three classical problems that puzzled the minds of outstanding Greek geometers: • Cube duplication • Pappus problem • Trisection of an angle The combined use of Maxima (Computer Algebra System) and the parametric features of GeoGebra offers the possibility to explore classical solutions at high school student level.

Leonardo Da Vinci proposed a simple machine to trace an ellipse. Descartes discussed about the use of mathematical machines to solve geometry problems [1]. Another important use of linkages in geometry is due to Kempe [2] who proposed a mechanism for tracing straight lines. The usefulness of mathematical machines in the teaching of geometry is also witnessed by the works of Courant and Robins [4] and Cundy and Rollet [3]. Interesting work has been made available on the internet by the Italian Mathematical Machines Association [5]. In our presentation it will be discussed the experience of the authors for simulating with GeoGebra noteworthy mathematical linkages.

Myself and my friend Federico Fabrizi have been invited as speakers at the summer school in San Pellegrino Terme organized by Prof. Gnudi (University of Bergamo) and financially supported by Regione Lombardia. We prepared different materials to show the importance and capability of GeoGebra. In particular we focused on the Geometry Work of René Descartes . The title of our main lecture was On the shoulders of Giants: Mascheroni and Descartes from the point of view of two high-school students (Sulle spalle dei giganti).

The talk focuses on our experiences as students with GeoGebra. These include the followings: • Reproduction with GeoGebra of the constructions described in La Geometria del Compasso by Lorenzo Mascheroni (an Italian mathematician on the 18th century). • Activities to spread the use of GeoGebra within teenagers. • Creation of GeoGebra files related to our maths and physics class. Results from the study, using GeoGebra, of an old classic geometry work will be reported as well.
